One of my classmates is your typical otaku. So while we were there, we dragged him into the club. So during the meet-up we were teasing him about it when he retorted with the following,

Every Friday, somehow, it seems to be a custom with the station to play Rebecca Black’s song, Friday at least once during the duty DJ’s shift. From the time I start work till I end, I would have sit through The Rude Awakening with Shan and Rozz, The longest Lunch Break with Sarah Tan and Muttons on the Move, making it 3 in total.

That means I listen to that song at least 3 times every Friday. GOSH. Why can’t I have a proper start to a weekend?

But, I am definitely not apathetic towards it.

I still care, definitely. Dude, we are talking about the group of people that is going to determine how much money they want to suck from me, how are they going to make sure my kid has a school to go to in the future and how much am I going to pay for that doctor to treat me if I am sick.

But it is just that, the country’s ruling party, the People Action Party (PAP), has make it so… um… so comfortable for the most of us that, seriously, politics is among the least of our worries. As my best brother said, they (PAP) has been around for so long that a culture is formed among us that PAP will always be around as the ruling political party, so why think too much into it?

That is, until this General Elections (GE).

For the first time in history, almost all wards are contested, save for Tanjong Pagar GRC, which… is another story of its own. I doubt PAP will be kicked out as the ruling party and become the opposition. The main concern here is how many members from the opposition are the voters going to send into Parliament this time around.

This time around, there are some strong candidates in the opposition line-up and they look really like the ones you can entrust Singapore to, even if they are not from the ruling party. In contrast, some candidates PAP fielded this time round worries me, a lot.

Let’s just take Marine Parade GRC for example. Helmed by Senior Minster (SM) Goh Chok Tong, this team from PAP looks solid as a whole and ready to carry on for another 5 years. But one member from this looks shaky and threaten to undermine the potential of the team. She is none other than Tin Pei Ling. Google or Yahoo! her up and you would understand why. Seriously? PAP wants to send someone like her to Parliament? To discuss about future bills? Gosh. Call me harsh if you want, but I certainly don’t want someone like her, a vase, to participate in the discussion of future policies that will affect Singapore and ultimately me.

On the contrary, the opposition team that is contesting in the same GRC has a female member too, only younger and everything that Ms Tin is not. She is none other than Nicole Seah. As usual, go Google or Yahoo! her up. She may be young (damn, she is the same age as me!) but she displays a level of maturity far higher and a level of depth far deeper than that Ms Tin. If the PAP is fielding Ms Tin because the Parliament needs more young faces, they should really slap themselves in the face for not discovering Ms Seah earlier.

I personally will feel very sad if Ms Tin really got elected as a MP and not Ms Seah. Unless that Ms Tin can prove not just to Marine Parade GRC’s residents but to the whole of Singapore her worth, I personally think that the next 5 years my country’s Parliament is as good as having an empty seat.

Okay, cool. I am really getting a B.A. But, that is all?! What the fuck? It has no mention of my major! So, is my school telling me that I am going to tell my future employer all I got is just a B.A.? Seriously. They need some tight slaps. And big ones.

And on the way home, I saw tweets by my Sbux partners regarding customers and I can’t agree more with her. Some customers come up to us and say, ‘Can I have a mocha “frappy” or “frappe”?’ Most of the time, I would say, ‘You mean a mocha frappuccino?’ I am fine if you mention ‘frap’ but ‘frappe’? Sorry. In my mind, you just come across to me as pure rude. For your information, only the brand with the golden arches uses ‘frappe’. We use ‘frappuccino’. If you don’t even have the decency to at least get our product name right, I am sorry, but Mac should be the place you go to and order your ‘frappe’ till you are happy. We don’t laugh at failed attempts to pronounce ‘frappuccino’ but we certainly don’t welcome the word ‘frappe’. And don’t get me started on customers who want to order our competitors drinks in our store.
